Hey everyone, I really need some advice. I use my laptop solely for DJing, and during a party tonight, someone accidentally spilled beer on my laptop. It turned off right away and now it's having major issues holding power. Sometimes it turns on, and I can even watch YouTube videos, but then it shuts down out of nowhere. I'm worried I might need to buy a new laptop if I can't fix this. Any suggestions on what to do?

It’s possible that something got damaged when the spill happened or when you turned it back on. Definitely avoid powering it on again. Try to disassemble it, clean everything thoroughly with 99% isopropyl alcohol, and let it dry. Just be careful while handling it since those components are fragile. Following a video tutorial for your laptop model while disassembling can help a lot!
The worst thing you could do is try powering it back on immediately. I’d suggest removing the battery and letting everything dry out in a moderate temp. Use isopropyl alcohol to clean any corroded parts. If nothing's visibly damaged, then try to reassemble it and power it up. If that doesn’t work, it might be time to head to a repair shop or get a new one.
You might want to check the thermal paste between the CPU and heatsink, as it can dry out over time. However, I bet the beer spill is your main issue. Good luck!
First off, don’t panic! Try removing the screws on the back of your laptop and gently open it up. Clean any parts that had contact with the beer using 90% isopropyl alcohol. Let everything dry for a day before trying to power it on again. And in the future, don't power on wet electronics right away!
Yeah, good luck! But honestly, there’s a high chance it won’t work after that.
If liquid gets inside, it can be tricky to fix. You might want to consider taking it to a professional to avoid future issues. Once it’s looked at, make sure to back up your data and consider a tougher model for the future, like a Toughbook, which can handle spills better.
I think the beer is definitely the culprit here, haha! You sure you’re in the right thread?
