What’s a realistic budget for building a 1080p gaming PC?

I'm currently using an Xbox Series X and a Steam Deck primarily for gaming. I got the Steam Deck to access Steam games that aren't available on my console, but I'm finding there are still quite a few that I can't play. Since I don't have an active Game Pass subscription, the Xbox isn't offering me much value right now. I'm interested in building a gaming PC that can run most games at 120fps, and I really don't need anything beyond 1080p resolution. What kind of budget should I realistically expect to spend for this setup?

For a solid 1080p gaming experience at 120fps, you might want to consider a graphics card roughly on par with a 5060, coupled with a mid-range CPU. Given current memory prices, I’d estimate you could get set up for around $1000. If you’re looking to cut costs, there are definitely ways to save, and a lot of knowledgeable people here can suggest areas where it’s okay to skimp without sacrificing performance.

Before diving in, think about whether you enjoy tinkering with hardware or if you'd prefer a prebuilt system. There are some decent prebuilt gaming rigs available for under $1000 that could meet what you're looking for. If you like the idea of building your own and it could save you money, that’s definitely an option to consider!

I could probably enjoy tinkering if it saved me significant money.
