Hey everyone! So, I've had my PC for quite a while now, and my dad built it for me ages ago. Over the last few years, I've only really upgraded my graphics card and added another SSD. I'm not super knowledgeable about PC upgrades, but I'm eager to learn.
Currently, I mainly play games like League of Legends, Fortnite, and Minecraft, and I've been experiencing some lag and low fps, especially when I've got multiple applications open, like Discord and Spotify. On average, I'm getting around 60-100 fps, but when I try streaming, it drops to about 30-60 fps.
I also find it tough to run Minecraft with more than 150-200 mods, unless they're smaller ones. Here are my specs:
- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6600
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor
- RAM: 16GB
I just realized I mistakenly wrote the wrong CPU model in my original post—it's definitely the 3600, not the 4600. I'm open to any suggestions or tips you might have; I'm really unsure about what to do!

Definitely check your GPU usage while gaming. If it's below 100%, it might be a sign that your CPU is bottlenecking your performance. Your Ryzen 5 3600 shouldn’t hold you back too much, but if you're looking for a significant boost, consider upgrading to a Ryzen 5 5600. It’s a solid CPU and should help with those CPU-heavy games.
It sounds like upgrading your RAM could be a smart move, especially since you often have multiple apps running while gaming. Since you’re playing some mod-heavy games like Minecraft, more RAM will really help performance. I’d recommend bumping up to 32GB if you can.
Also, remember to check your GPU settings and make sure hardware acceleration in Discord is enabled. If you were to upgrade anything else, I’d suggest looking at your CPU next; it could help with the performance drop when streaming.
I think you might be on the right track! Your RX 6600 and Ryzen 3600 should actually handle things pretty well. The main culprit might be your 16GB of RAM getting maxed out with everything you have open. It might also be worth checking if your CPU is overheating due to old thermal paste. You could easily replace the paste to help with cooling.
Great idea! I really have no experience with thermal paste though; how would I check if it needs replacing?

Thanks for the advice! I checked the task manager during gameplay, and it does show my CPU working hard, so that makes sense.
