What’s the Difference Between Phone Memory and Storage?

I feel a bit out of touch asking this, but I really want to understand the difference between memory and storage on my phone. I'm trying to make sure I have enough space for all the pictures I'm planning to take on my upcoming vacation. Right now, my phone shows that I have 16 GB of storage available but only 1 GB of memory. Am I okay with that? It's just something I've never really learned about before, so I hope it's not a silly question!

Think of it like this: memory is like your desk space—how much you can have out and actively work on at one time. The bigger your desk, the more you can handle. In this case, that's your RAM. Storage is like your filing cabinets; it holds everything you need, even when you’re not using it. Just remember, the more filing cabinets you have, the more stuff you can keep permanently!

When folks refer to 'storage,' they're talking about space where you keep files like photos, which stays even when your phone is off. That's your permanent storage. Memory usually refers to your RAM, which helps your phone run programs—it clears when the phone powers down. So, yeah, your phone can save your pictures just fine, as long as you have enough storage space left!

Just to clarify, memory (or RAM) is used for the tasks your phone is currently running, while your storage is what holds all your files, similar to how records are stored. They serve different purposes!

You can think of storage as your photo album, but your memory is like the batteries that power your camera. It keeps everything running while you take pictures.

Right now, it sounds like you're pretty low on storage. Consider getting an SD card from a shop (not online), format it as internal storage, and you should be set! Just a heads up, videos will take up much more space since they capture 30/60 frames per second!

If you’ve ever used a computer, storage is like the hard drive and memory is your RAM. Memory helps things run smoothly while you’re using apps. You’ve got plenty of storage (15GB free!), so you should be fine for photos! Just keep an eye on memory if you run into app issues.
