What’s Up with Those Random Microsoft MFA Texts?

Hey everyone! Happy Wednesday! I've been hearing from a couple of users about receiving unexpected text messages with MFA codes from Microsoft. I checked their account activity and didn't find anything alarming. Even after they changed their passwords, those texts keep coming. Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas on what's going on?

We got one too, around 7:12 AM Central time. I’m switching off SMS right now and setting up the authenticator app. Is Microsoft having another glitch, or could this be a larger issue?

Ugh.

To be fair, you probably should've disabled SMS a while ago.

Looks like these messages are coming from actual Microsoft numbers. Maybe it’s a glitch or something?

Can text 'from' numbers be spoofed like Caller ID? I’ve had calls seemingly from my bank that were scams, so maybe it’s similar.

I've seen a few discussions about this lately, so it's not just you. Seems like it's been happening to several users. Maybe it's worth investigating further to identify if there's some sort of glitch at play?

Lovely. Today is going to be fun.

I’m experiencing this issue as well. It’s good to see I’m not alone, as I’ve been on edge about it since early this morning.

Best move is to disable SMS MFA at all cost. Switch to an authenticator app like Fido. It's much safer!

What's wrong with the MS authenticator app besides EVERYTHING? lol

Not that easy! We’re a school district, and some staff don’t want to use an app.
