Hey everyone! A friend of mine took his hard drive out of his laptop and connected it to my PC using a USB 3.0 adapter. I sent a bunch of files—the entire show is about 18.3 GB—to the root directory of the hard drive. Now, he's reattached it to his own PC, but the files are missing. The drive still shows that the space is being used, so I know the files are somewhere on there. Can anyone suggest tools or commands to help me locate and move the files? I'm really stuck here!

You might want to try doing a search directly from the drive itself. Just open the drive and use the search function. Depending on the operating system, you should be able to pull up those files pretty easily. If he’s on Windows and it’s still missing then it could be worth checking the hidden files settings to see if that reveals anything.
First off, double-check if the drive is properly formatted for your friend's PC to read. If it’s NTFS, ensure that’s supported by his setup. If you were sending files directly to the root from Windows, they should be there, but sometimes the file browsing can get tricky depending on the OS configuration. Ask your friend to confirm that he is viewing files in 'All Files' mode and doesn't have filters set that might hide them.
It’s a good idea to check if the drive has any hidden or system files that might be obscuring your files. Make sure to enable both 'show hidden files' and 'show system files' in the drive properties. Sometimes, files end up hidden for various reasons. If you've already tried that, then it might be time to look into software that recovers deleted files. It’s possible they got misplaced.
