I'm looking to upgrade my setup from a Ryzen 2700 specifically for gaming. The 5800X3D appears to be the superior choice for gaming performance, but it's tough to find and usually priced around $600. On the other hand, I can get a Ryzen 5900X for a much more affordable price. Is it really worth the extra investment in the 5800X3D, considering it's no longer in production?

Honestly, if you're all about gaming, consider the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. It's regarded as the top choice for gamers, but just know it's a premium option!
The shift to a 9800X3D means a big investment; the new RAM alone will cost at least $400.
If you find a good deal on a 5700X3D or 5800X3D, go for it. They’re some of the best gaming CPUs on the AM4 socket right now. But if those are overpriced, then the 5800X will still be a significant upgrade from your 2700 without breaking the bank. The 5900X isn't that much better for gaming unless you're doing heavy multi-core tasks.
For pure gaming, honestly, the cheapest options like the 5600X, 5700X, or even just the 5800X are totally fine. The extra cores from the 5900X won't really help with gaming performance, and the price gap for the 5800X3D might not justify the boost it offers.
If you're considering a new 5800X3D, have you looked into the used market? A second-hand 5700X3D could also be a solid option. With RAM prices being so high, switching to the new AM5 platform could get pricey, too. Just something to think about!

That might be too pricey for many, especially with how much RAM costs these days. AM4 still has a lot to offer, and I'm still using it myself!
