Which Laptop is Better for Linux: Acer Aspire 5 or Dell G15?

I'm ready to make the switch from Windows to Linux and I have two older laptops to choose from: the Acer Aspire 5 and the Dell G15. I'm planning to use it as my daily driver and do some light gaming as well. I've seen mixed opinions about both models, especially since they both come with AMD Ryzen processors. I'm curious if Linux would run well on either of them, and which one would be better suited for my needs. Also, I wonder if my choice of Linux distribution would have an impact. Thanks for your insights!

Both laptops can run Linux just fine. Typically, Ryzen CPUs have no major issues with Linux. Just keep an eye on Nvidia graphics, as that can be a bit finicky sometimes. If you’re looking for a lightweight distro, MX Linux is awesome for older machines and performs well. Other solid choices are Linux Mint or Fedora. Each distro has its own vibe, so try a few out and see which one feels right for you. For gaming, you might need to install Wine or use tools like Steam or Lutris.

If you're really into desktop environments, explore options like Cinnamon, Gnome, KDE, or XFCE to see which one you prefer.
