Hi everyone! I'm looking to switch from Windows to a new operating system and I'm pretty excited about trying Linux. I don't have much experience with it, but I'm curious about which distribution would be best for me. I'm a bit of a gamer and also need it for university work. Any recommendations? Thanks! 😀

Mint or Ubuntu would be solid picks! Ubuntu is pretty straightforward and offers plenty of community support which can help you learn a bit about the command line if you're interested.
If your university has a specific Linux distro they use, I'd suggest going with that. It’ll make it easier to get help from your classmates directly. For gaming support, definitely check out sites like Are We Anti-Cheat Yet? and ProtonDB to see how games run on different setups.
If you're looking for something similar to Windows, Mint is the way to go. But if you want to explore more, you might want to try Ubuntu or even Debian for a lightweight option. Arch is on the tougher side but really customizable. And don't forget about Bazzite for gaming – it's designed to make gaming easy on Linux!
For beginners, Mint is a popular choice! It’s user-friendly and has a nice interface.
I’ve tried a few distros: Mint and Debian are great for beginners, while Manjaro and Pop!OS are slightly more advanced but still user-friendly. One distro that’s been mentioned for gamers is Bazzite, though I haven't used it myself. Just experiment a bit with a few distros and see which one fits your needs!
