Which PSU is Better for a 5090 and 9950X3D Build: 1200W or 1500W?

I'm building a new rig featuring a 5090 and a 9950X3D, and I'm trying to decide between a 1200W and a 1500W power supply unit (PSU). My anticipated peak power draw is just over 1000W, so I'm wondering if the 20% headroom provided by a 1200W PSU is sufficient. Alternatively, would it be better to go for the 1500W option? Money isn't an issue, but I prefer not to overspend on something I won't fully utilize.

If budget isn’t too tight, I’d recommend looking at PSUs with 12vhpwr monitoring, especially since you're using a 5090. ASRock has options that start at around 1300W.

A solid high-quality 1200W PSU provides a good safety margin. Most are most efficient at 50-80% load, which you’ll hit during peak usage. However, a 1500W PSU offers more flexibility if you decide to upgrade in the future.

Choosing a 1500W PSU could lead to better efficiency and longevity, although the difference isn't radical. A 1200W is fine, but a 1500W gives you room for future expansions.

1200W is complete overkill for your current setup. I opted for the Lian Li Edge series, and it's been fantastic.

A 1200W PSU should be more than enough for your setup. There's really no need to go for a 1500W unless you're planning some extreme overclocking or future upgrades.
