Why am I getting low FPS with my gaming setup?

I've got a 3060 Ti and an R7 5700X, but I'm experiencing unexpectedly low FPS in competitive games. For instance, in CS2 Deathmatch, my FPS can drop to around 90 even though my CPU usage barely hits 40% and my GPU usage is only about 20%. I'm playing in a stretched resolution with everything set to low. The same situation occurs in Fortnite where I barely reach 100 FPS. The only time my setup performs well is with AAA games where the GPU usage spikes to about 90%, matching benchmarks. Since I've been working on some local AI projects, I've seen my CPU and GPU reaching 100% usage then, which shows they can handle tasks just fine; it's puzzling why gaming is so subpar while using a 240Hz monitor. Any thoughts on how to solve this?

What's your RAM speed? If your RAM is only running at 2133MHz instead of 3600MHz, that's definitely holding your performance back. Ryzen CPUs like your 5700X are really sensitive to RAM speeds. Consider upgrading if possible; a little investment here might unlock a lot of potential.

You might want to examine your BIOS settings. Ensure XMP or EXPO is enabled for your RAM and that any relevant settings are optimized for performance. If everything is normal but you're still facing issues, updating the BIOS could be worth trying; outdated firmware can sometimes lead to performance hiccups.

First, check the per-core usage of your CPU. Just looking at the overall 40% can be misleading since your R7 5700X has 8 cores. If 4 are maxed out, that could explain the slow FPS in demanding games. Additionally, make sure that there aren't any unwanted programs running in the background, which might affect your gaming performance.

Are your Nvidia drivers fully updated? Also, pay attention to your CPU and GPU temperatures. If they're too high, that could be throttling performance. Keeping everything in check might help prevent FPS drops.

Just a tip: double-check that your display cable is connected to the GPU and not the motherboard. Misconfiguration here could limit the performance significantly. If things still aren’t working right, a fresh Windows install might help clean up any underlying driver conflicts.
