Why Are My Ethernet Speeds So Different on Two PCs?

Hey everyone! I'm having a weird issue with the Ethernet speeds on my two desktop computers which are both connected to a Netgear AC750 wireless extender. They're hooked up via Ethernet cables, but one PC is cruising at about 40+ mbps download speed, while the other barely hits 1mbps, usually only managing around 400-500kbps. Sometimes the slower computer shows faster speeds, but mostly it lags behind. I've tried switching cables and ports, resetting the router, and checked the Speed & Duplex settings—everything says it's auto negotiating with a status speed of 1.0gbps. However, that's not translating to what I'm actually getting. Any suggestions on troubleshooting this issue would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried connecting both computers directly to the wireless extender with different Ethernet cables to see if that changes the speed? That could help narrow down whether the issue is with the PC or the extender. If they're already on Ethernet, it might be a good idea to troubleshoot the extender settings as well.

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll give that a shot to see if there’s any difference.

Are you sure both computers are connected through Ethernet and not using Wi-Fi? Sometimes people think they're connected wirelessly to the extender when they’re not. It might also help to check if you’re using the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz band, as that can affect speeds too. You could download a Wi-Fi analyzer app to dig deeper into the connection.
