Why are my laptop temperatures so high after replacing thermal paste and pads?

I recently replaced the thermal paste and thermal pads on my Lenovo Slim Pro 9i laptop, but I'm seeing some concerning results. It's been about six hours since I did the application, and now my graphics card seems to be underperforming—games are lagging, and stress tests aren't running smoothly. I'm really worried because the temperatures are high, with my RTX 4060 idling around 88°C to 89°C. I used Kryonaut ultra high-performance thermal grease, but I'm not an expert and I'm trying to figure out what went wrong. Can anyone offer some guidance?

It sounds like you might have some issues with the thermal pads. They need to be the right height to ensure proper contact with the cooler. When you take it apart again, check if the thermal paste is evenly spread and not too thick. And remember to apply even pressure when reassembling! Tighten the screws in an X pattern to avoid misalignment. This could make a big difference!

Thanks for the tips! I did follow a pattern, but I was unsure about the thermal pads. They melted, so I went with what seemed thick enough. Should I really consider removing a layer of those pads if they look too thick?
