Hey everyone! I'm looking to run some serious video encoding tasks and need a virtual machine with around 32 vCPUs for optimal performance. I usually work with Azure and have access to various app services and storage, but I'm now trying to use my personal subscription, which I haven't touched in a while. Unfortunately, I can only provision VMs with a maximum of 16 vCPUs. Is this due to my pay-as-you-go subscription being lower priority? It's quite frustrating because I want to utilize more resources and am ready to pay for them. I've already submitted a request to increase my quota, but I'm curious what the issue might be in the meantime.

You're definitely on the right track with contacting support for the quota increase. Just a heads-up, a lot of people on personal subscriptions like yours might be limited to 20 cores for most VM series. You can check this by going to your subscription settings and checking 'Usage + Quotas.' Just keep in mind that some VM families might be temporarily restricted due to high demand!
Yeah, West Europe is currently at capacity, so you might just need to consider a different region if you keep running into these limits. Some folks are suggesting looking into South Central US, but there hasn't been any clear info about expansions for a while.
To get access to a VM with more cores, you'll need to request a core quota increase. Just search for 'quotas' in the Azure portal, select the compute option, and choose the required region and VM SKU. Some requests are aut0matically approved, but many will require a support ticket to actually get the increase.
