Why Does My AMD RX 7800 XT Keep Switching to the iGPU?

Hey everyone! I've been dealing with a frustrating issue for the past few weeks. My AMD RX 7800 XT graphics card keeps getting disabled randomly and Windows switches to the integrated GPU. I have an AMD Ryzen 9 7900x CPU and an ASROCK X670E Steel Legend motherboard. The weird part is that when this happens, if I reboot, the RX card is still disabled, yet I still get an image without needing to switch the HDMI connection to the motherboard's HDMI port. In Device Manager, I can see two display adapters: my RX and one labeled AMD Radeon (TM) Graphics, which I assume is from the motherboard. I've tried reinstalling drivers, using DDU for a clean install, and even disabled the Radeon TM option, but nothing seems to work. Is this a driver issue, a hardware problem, or something else? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Wow, that sounds frustrating! It could potentially be related to your ASROCK motherboard. There was some controversy recently about it causing overvoltage issues with CPUs, which might affect stability and ultimately disable your GPU. I’d recommend checking for any BIOS updates for your motherboard, as well as using tools like DISM and SFC to scan for system issues. Also, keep an eye on those PBO settings!

Yeah, I agree. I faced similar dramas after a Windows update myself. Let’s hope Microsoft sorts these issues out soon!

I don't think it's a CPU issue at all. My bet is actually on a Windows update causing the problem—Windows 11 has had its fair share of bugs!

It might be some kind of passthrough mechanism that’s built into the GPU, possibly an undocumented feature. It's definitely worth exploring if that's causing the switch to the integrated graphics. Have you checked if there are any specific settings in the BIOS regarding GPU preferences?
