Why does my GPU not take over in games despite being set as default?

I've got a new 5060ti with 16GB of VRAM, and I'm super excited to finally dive into Oblivion Remastered and other games at 1080p. However, I've run into a frustrating issue: even after setting my GPU as the preferred graphics processor, my PC still relies heavily on the CPU. When I start Oblivion, it kicks off with around 50% CPU and 50% GPU usage, but then it completely shifts to using the CPU and ignores the GPU. I thought maybe my Ryzen 5 5600G was causing a bottleneck, but even with my old RTX 3060, the same problem occurs. It's driving me crazy! Has anyone experienced this or know how to solve it?

It sounds like your CPU might just be doing a lot of the work, especially during loading screens. Sometimes games, like Oblivion, initially use the CPU to load shaders and assets, which can spike its usage. If you're seeing consistent high CPU usage when running the game, it could mean your CPU is bottlenecking your GPU. Just keep in mind that both CPU and GPU are necessary for overall performance in games! You might want to check your graphics settings and see if lowering them changes anything.

Exactly! It's not just one or the other at play here. If your CPU is maxing out at every startup, consider rolling back to older Nvidia drivers; that worked wonders for me in similar situations.
