Why Does My Monitor Randomly Go Black for 2-4 Seconds?

I've been dealing with an annoying issue where my monitor goes black for a few seconds without warning. I've tried reinstalling the drivers and followed all the usual troubleshooting steps, but nothing has worked so far. One suggestion I came across was to switch my monitor to 60Hz, as I have an Acer KS271. I've also switched out HDMI cables, but the problem persists. Maybe my cables aren't good enough? Tomorrow, I'm planning to buy some DisplayPort cables since my tower has only one HDMI slot and two DP ports, and I can't set up multiple monitors. Any advice would be appreciated!

Have you checked the age of your computer? Sometimes internal components can cause display issues. Running a few system checks like DISM, CHKDSK, and SFC might reveal something.

Actually, it's fairly new! I just ran those checks, and everything seems fine. I’ll focus on replacing the cables tomorrow.

I came across a theory about clearing the thumbnail cache to stop the flickering. Might be worth a shot!

Tried clearing it, but it’s still happening. What a bummer.

Just cleared mine too, I'll let you know if it helps!

It might sound crazy, but I've had a similar issue caused by static electricity from my office chair. I had to replace the upholstery and ground my mousepad to fix it. If cables and drivers don’t work, you could check if something else is causing static discharge.

I had no idea static could cause that! That's really interesting.

I thought it was just a coincidence too, but it seems like there might be something to it. Gonna test this out!

When I had this same problem, switching to a new HDMI cable fixed it right away. Definitely worth considering, especially if you’re already getting new ones.

Sounds like your HDMI cable might be on its last legs. If you’ve tried multiple ones, it could just be that all of them are worn out. You might want to test the one you use for your console, it could work better.

Do you think all three could be failing at once? My console cable has been trouble-free so far.
