I've built a computer a few years back for non-gaming tasks, but recently I started using it for VR and gaming. I'm running into a problem where my PC crashes and stops displaying anything after about 15-20 minutes when using SteamVR. I've had a similar issue before with a non-VR game last year, and I managed to fix it by increasing the fan speed to keep the GPU temperature below 60°C. Unfortunately, that trick isn't working this time, and the GPU still reaches that temperature. I've tried updating my drivers, but nothing seems to change. Here's my build for reference:
- Motherboard: MSI PRO B760-P WIFI DDR4 (MS-7D98)
- GPU: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3070 8G
- CPU: Intel Core i7-13700KF
- RAM: 32GB DDR4
- PSU: Cooler Master MWE Gold 850 - V2
I have HWinfo installed, so I can share any details that might help diagnose the issue. Any suggestions on what to check or do next?

I’d recommend starting with a stress test for your GPU. Sometimes the thermal paste can dry out, or there could be a problem with the PCB or internal chips. It’s a good diagnostic move to see if your GPU is the issue.
Given that your setup is a couple of years old, I’d check how old your CPU is and ensure that your BIOS is updated. Early models of the Intel 13th gen CPUs had some issues with oxidation and excessive voltages. You should definitely stress test your CPU and GPU separately to figure out if one of them is causing the crash. If the crashes happen when both are under heavy load, it might point to a power supply issue.
I got the build 2-3 years ago. I think my BIOS is fairly recent. How do I go about stress testing?
