I've encountered an issue where my CPU speed has dropped dramatically to just 0.8 GHz. My PC was running perfectly fine three days ago, but for some reason, it decided to throttle my CPU. I want to understand what's happening and how to resolve it.
Here's my setup:
- Motherboard: MSI B150 Gaming M3
- RAM: 1x 4GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 2133 and 1x 8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 2666
- CPU: Intel i6-6500
- GPU: R9 380
- OS: Windows 11 (which I got from someone without knowing its full history).
I also discovered that I accidentally enabled something called "Slow Switch Mode," which is supposed to limit the CPU's speed. I don't remember turning it on, and I'm not sure why it's even an option on my motherboard. Any help would be appreciated!

If you haven't already, download ThrottleStop and disable BD-Prochot. It's a tool that helps you manage your CPU’s performance better. You might find that works for stabilizing your speeds!
Make sure to check your BIOS settings, particularly for any options related to power saving or CPU throttling. If you find Slow Switch Mode enabled, turn it off. It seems to be the culprit here! Also, check your power plan settings in Windows; sometimes it can default to a power-saving mode that throttles the CPU.
Don’t forget to look at your power supply! I had a similar issue where the laptop was underperforming because it wasn't getting sufficient power. Try disassembling and reseating the battery, or check if the PSU is functioning properly.
Your system might be struggling with the mixed RAM speeds, especially with the extra 4GB stick. It could be causing memory channel issues. Consider running with just the 8GB stick at 2666 MHz to see if performance improves. Dual channel configs usually perform better!
