Why Is My Gaming Performance Lower Than My Friends’ on a Good PC?

I've got a solid PC setup with an RTX 4070 Ti, Ryzen 7 3800x, and 32GB of RAM on a Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite motherboard. However, I'm not getting the performance I expected. In fact, my friends with less powerful setups are seeing much better performance. I mainly play shooters like Valorant and Counter-Strike, but I'm struggling to hit 160 fps on my 240Hz monitor. I'm not very tech-savvy, so any tips or insights would be appreciated!

Also, consider what resolution you’re playing at. If you're at 1440p or 4K, that could definitely impact your frame rates. What resolution are you using?

It might also be worth checking your display connection. Just to clarify, are you using an HDMI plugged into the motherboard? Because if so, it won’t work with your CPU since the 3800x doesn't have integrated graphics.

One issue could be your CPU. The Ryzen 7 3800x is starting to show its age, especially for gaming. You might want to consider upgrading to a Ryzen 5 5700X or higher. Also, make sure you're playing at a resolution that matches what your setup can handle. Since you're playing shooters, lowering the settings slightly or using NVIDIA DLSS can help boost your frame rate too. It's worth a shot!

Yeah, but if the CPU is bottlenecking, just lowering settings won’t make much difference.

Have you checked if your RAM is running at its rated speeds? Sometimes it can be misconfigured, and that can impact performance. Also, make sure your CPU isn’t overheating and that you have the latest GPU drivers installed.
