Why is my new RAM running at a lower speed?

I recently upgraded the RAM in my PC with a 3200MHz kit, but I noticed that in the Task Manager, it's only showing a speed of 2133MT/s. I'm fairly new to building PCs and I tried to find the XMP option in the BIOS to adjust the settings, but I only see options for the CPU. Can anyone help me understand what's going on and how I can fix this?

It sounds like your RAM is running in a default mode instead of its intended speed. In many BIOS setups, XMP can be hidden if the manufacturer restricts access. If you really can't find the option, it might help to visit Lenovo's support site for your model—maybe they have BIOS updates or specific instructions for enabling high-speed memory.

First things first, can you check what motherboard you have? It's crucial because prebuilt systems like yours sometimes have limited options in the BIOS. If it's a Lenovo T5, they might not have exposed the XMP settings. Also, if you haven’t already, make sure your RAM is seated properly in the correct slots. Sometimes that can make a difference.

If you confirm that your motherboard does support XMP but it’s still not showing up, consider that sometimes RAM sticks need to be manually set to their advertised speeds. You could disconnect the power and clear the CMOS to reset the BIOS and see if it shows up afterward.
