Why is my new RAM running at full speed without XMP enabled?

I just upgraded my RAM from Corsair Vengeance 32GB to Kingston Fury Beast 64GB. After switching them out, I noticed that the new Kingston sticks are running at their rated speed of 6000 MT without me even enabling XMP. I'm a bit confused as to why this is happening. Could they have been previously used? Additionally, I've noticed that my computer's startup is way slower now, and I'm experiencing some random black screen flickering. Is this something that's normal?

You might want to disable XMP and let the memory retrain itself first. After that, re-enable XMP to see if it stabilizes with your new RAM. Sometimes it needs an adjustment to work properly together.

But I never had XMP on to start with, and it's still showing 6000 MT. Seems odd, right?

Try resetting your BIOS CMOS and ensure you're running the latest BIOS version. Check the RAM frequency set in the BIOS too. After disabling XMP, running memtest86 is a good idea to confirm stability. If the black screens continue and you didn’t have issues before, there might be a problem with the new RAM.

I should really look into updating the BIOS. The black screens seemed to stop, though—they were just a couple of times right after boot.
