Why is my Ryzen 7 7800X3D being recognized as a Ryzen 5 8400F?

I recently purchased a Ryzen 7 7800X3D from Amazon Brazil, along with an MSI B650M Gaming Plus motherboard. However, after assembling my computer, all components including the motherboard, Windows, and CPU-Z are identifying the CPU as a Ryzen 5 8400F. Could this be a communication issue, or should I just consider returning it?

On the bright side, at least you ended up with something usable if it is an AM5 socket! That's a win in some cases!

Honestly, if you're seeing this discrepancy and can't resolve it, I'd recommend returning it. It could be a serious error, and you shouldn’t risk using a mismatched CPU.

First off, check the actual label on the CPU itself to see what's written on it. I've seen cases where people return the wrong CPUs inside the right boxes, especially with Amazon not verifying returns closely. It's possible someone bought the 7800X3D and swapped it out with an 8400F, which looks similar.

Yeah, I had a similar experience! Definitely check that CPU label before deciding what to do.

For sure! I double-checked, and it does have the right inscription.

Did you take a look at the lid before installation? It's important to verify that before putting everything together. Sometimes, it’s just a simple mix-up that can be resolved quickly.

Totally agree! Always double-check to avoid these situations!
