Will AppleCare Cover an iPhone Screen Replacement for a Deep Scratch?

I have an iPhone Air that picked up several scratches after I dropped it. One deep scratch near the top-right corner is now causing noticeable light distortion and refraction, which makes the display distracting to use. I understand that ordinary cosmetic scratches usually aren't covered, but could this scratch qualify for a screen replacement because it is affecting how the display looks? I have AppleCare One and would like to know whether an Apple repair provider might offer a reduced-cost replacement.

A scratch caused by an accidental drop generally isn’t covered as a free warranty repair. The standard warranty is for manufacturing defects, not cosmetic damage or accidental damage. With AppleCare One, you may be eligible for an accidental-damage screen repair at a service fee, assuming the device and damage qualify under the plan. Apple or an authorized repair provider would need to inspect it and confirm the exact cost.

The fact that the scratch is distorting light may help explain why you want it repaired, but it usually doesn’t turn accidental damage into a warranty claim. It’s best to check the current screen-repair fee for your specific iPhone and coverage before taking it in.
