Will My Apple Care+ Renew After Buying a MacBook on Marketplace?

I recently bought a MacBook Pro from Facebook Marketplace, and I checked the coverage on Apple's check coverage site. It shows that the Apple Care+ will renew on July 5, 2025. However, I have a few concerns:

1. If it says it will renew, does that mean it definitely will, or could it be cancelled by the previous owner? I'm not sure if they cancelled it or not.

2. When I purchased it, the activation and iCloud locks were disabled. However, I'm worried that the original owner could still lock the MacBook if the Apple Care+ remains linked to their Apple ID.

3. Do I need to log in with the Apple ID that was used to purchase the Apple Care+ for it to remain active, or can I use a different Apple ID?

This is my first MacBook and I don't even have the previous owner's purchase receipt, so any advice would be really helpful! It's a 2023 MacBook Pro with an M2 Pro chip, 14-inch.

If the previous owner linked the Apple Care+ to their Apple ID, it will keep charging their card, and you might lose the coverage if they cancel it. You can check your Apple Care status by visiting mysupport.apple.com and see if you can link it to your own account. If they haven't linked it, then it would end after expiry. Also, if they have it linked, yes, they could potentially lock the MacBook if they wanted to, even if the locks are currently disabled.

That's super concerning! So if I were you, I'd reach out to the seller and confirm whether they cancelled it or not. Hopefully they will respond!

Regarding your question about Apple IDs, generally, you don’t need to use the original Apple ID for the Apple Care+ to renew; you can link it to a new one. However, if the previous owner has not canceled it and it’s linked to their account, they might still have some control over it. So it’s worth being cautious. You might want to consider reaching out to Apple support directly for solid advice on retaining coverage without the seller's involvement.
