I'm in the process of negotiating my severance package with my former employer, and I'll be getting a corporate laptop as part of it. I want to make sure that the device is completely clean and free from any spyware before I take it. The laptop is a 2020 M1 MacBook Air running macOS Sonoma 14.3.1 and currently has several restrictions, including disabled USB ports and remote access software like AnyDesk. I know I need to have it removed from Mobile Device Management (MDM), but what other software should I look out for? Also, how do I go about wiping it once it's officially mine? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Once it's removed from the MDM system, the best way to ensure it's clean is to perform a full restore with a fresh installation of macOS. If it’s not removed properly, it might still reactivate the MDM during the setup. Just start from scratch rather than trying to pick and choose which parts to remove.
So, a clean install will clear out any leftover junk too, right?
