Why Do I Need Two Files for Offline Updates on Windows 11?

Hey everyone! I'm trying to update my Windows 11 system (24h2) to the June patch using offline methods, but I'm running into some problems. When I look for the updates in the Microsoft Update Catalog, I see that there are two files available for download. I read somewhere that I need to have both files downloaded to successfully install the update. Is this true? If so, why has Microsoft changed this process? I remember it used to be just one file for offline updates, which makes this pretty confusing!

That's an interesting scenario! Normally, when I update my desktop OS, I just go for one .msu file. But for Server OS updates, I see the same two-file situation you mentioned. I checked the catalog too and it seems like it often happens with some .NET updates where only one file is actually needed for your system. Have you tried downloading both files and installing them one after the other? Maybe one of them will work for you!

I’ve only tested the latest patch file so far. Once I read about needing both, it threw me a bit since it has changed. Plus, why do I need to download 3GB now when it used to just be around 700MB? But yeah, running only the one didn’t do the trick.
