Which CPU Should I Choose for My AM5 Upgrade?

I'm in the process of upgrading my PC to the AM5 format. Currently, I'm running a Ryzen 5 5600X and a 3060 GPU, and I'm stuck between two CPUs: the Ryzen 7 7700X and the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. I play games at 1080p, and I've read that these CPUs might be overkill for my current setup. While it wouldn't hurt to have a powerful CPU for future upgrades, I'm looking for some insights on the pros and cons of these two options. Is there a better CPU I should consider instead?

Have you considered the 5700X3D? It really depends on what games you play, as titles with lots of NPCs or streaming assets tend to benefit from stronger CPUs. However, if you're moving to AM5, it's wise to think about long-term upgrades for the rest of your system.

I'm going full AM5 so I can upgrade easily. Most of my games run well, even 'Cyberpunk,' but 'Monster Hunter' has been an issue. That's why I'm leaning towards a solid CPU upgrade.

If you're not having major issues with your 5600X, it might be worth sticking with it for a bit. It should handle most games at 1080p just fine, aside from maybe a few demanding titles. For example, I know 'Monster Hunter World' can be a rough ride on CPUs even with a good GPU.

Yeah, I've had some trouble with 'Monster Hunter' too! It's a CPU-intensive game, so it might be worth looking into a more powerful CPU for that.

Between the two, the 7700X is a solid choice and much cheaper. It’s good enough for 1080p gaming and will save you some cash for a GPU upgrade later. Just keep in mind, it might run hot sometimes.

On the flip side, the 7800X3D is faster and really efficient, but can be considered overkill for your current needs. It's more future-proof, but you'll pay around 1.5 to 2 times the price of the 7700X.
