Last night, while I was on a Discord call with a friend, my internet suddenly dropped out for about 20-30 minutes. My Wi-Fi showed a warning icon indicating no connection, and I couldn't access any websites. However, the strange thing was that the Discord call kept going without any issues the entire time. I know there was a storm in the area, but my power was fine. So, why was Discord still working when everything else wasn't?

Maybe your laptop automatically switched to using cell data for the Discord call? That’s a pretty nifty feature if it did!
Did your friend live near you or maybe have the same internet provider? Sometimes, if someone is on the same network or using the same provider, they might experience similar issues. Just a thought!
Nah, my friend lives in Texas while I'm in Virginia, so we have different providers.
That’s definitely weird! It really shouldn’t work like that.
It sounds like your connection was still active for established connections, like Discord. Your ISP could have been having issues with DNS servers, which translate domain names. So while you couldn’t start new connections, existing ones stayed established, allowing your call to continue.
Thanks for explaining that! It makes a lot of sense now.
I wish! But I was on my laptop, and I wasn't connected to cell data.
