Why is my new secondary SSD so slow after cloning?

I recently upgraded to a 2TB Crucial SSD after cloning my old 250GB WD Blue SSD using a cloning dock. The new SSD is supposed to perform at about 500MB/s, but I'm only getting around 100MB/s according to CrystalDiskMark. This SSD serves as my secondary drive for games, not for the OS. CrystalDiskInfo shows the drive's health at 98% and confirms it's using a SATA/600 interface. I checked my BIOS but couldn't find the AHCI setting, even though I used the same SATA cable and port as my old drive. I also looked at the partition starting offset, which is 16777216, and it looks fine since it's divisible by 4096. What could be causing this slow performance?

It sounds like your new SSD might be in a compatibility mode rather than AHCI, which can really slow things down. You mentioned not finding the AHCI setting in BIOS—sometimes it’s just labeled differently. Check for anything related to SATA modes or options where you can switch to AHCI. Also, make sure the SSD firmware is up to date.

Thanks, I'll dig through the BIOS settings again. I thought I checked all the options, but maybe I missed something!

If you cloned the old drive over, it’s possible the cloning method didn’t fully integrate the SSD's optimizations. Try performing a clean install of the drive or at least reformatting it after backing up your games. Sometimes that can clear up performance issues that cloning might cause.

A clean install sounds like a hassle, but if it fixes the speed issue, it might be worth it. I’ll try that if I can’t find a solution in BIOS.
