I'm looking to upgrade my CPU since the games I play rely heavily on CPU performance rather than GPU. The games tend to use primarily one core, and I want to know if upgrading my CPU means I also need to change my motherboard.

Here are my current specs:
- CPU: I7 7700k
- Motherboard: MSI B250 Gaming Pro Carbon
- RAM: 16GB DDR4
- GPU: GTX 1080

Your B250 motherboard only supports Intel's 6th and 7th generation CPUs. If you're considering anything newer, you’ll have to upgrade your motherboard as well.

Just a heads up, there are actually two versions of the 1151 socket. The 8th and 9th gen CPUs require 300 series motherboards, so keep that in mind when shopping!

Exactly! It's best to look into those newer boards if you're aiming for a performance boost.

Yes, if you're upgrading to a newer CPU, you'll definitely need a new motherboard. The I7 7700K is the most powerful CPU that your current motherboard can handle.
