Why isn’t my graphics card powering up my PC?

I'm building a PC and have run into an issue: my motherboard powers on fine when the graphics card isn't connected to the power supply. But as soon as I plug in the GPU, the motherboard won't turn on, and I only hear a quiet ticking noise from the power supply. The GPU does light up when connected to the motherboard sans power supply, though. I've double-checked compatibility, and everything appears to be in line. For reference, I'm using a TUF B650-E WiFi motherboard, a GeForce RTX 5060 GPU, and a MAG A760GL PCIe5 power supply. Any insights on what's going wrong?

It sounds like your 12-volt line might be shorted, which would trigger the power supply's overcurrent protection, preventing it from powering on when the GPU is connected. You might want to check if you're using the correct cable for the power supply or if you accidentally plugged in a CPU power connector to the GPU instead.

If the GPU didn’t come with a cable, check the product manual or the manufacturer's website to ensure you have the right one. They may look similar, but certain cables can be specific to the model.
