What do the PCIe cables in my power supply connect to?

I have a power supply with two PCIe cables. One cable has an 8-pin connector that is separable, and I'm guessing it's for the CPU. The other PCIe cable is an 8-pin connector that isn't separable. I need to know where to plug these cables into my motherboard, which is an x870 A Elite WiFi 7. There's also an empty 8-pin connector on the motherboard, and I'm a bit confused about the connections.

In case you're wondering, my GPU has an older setup that uses both an 8-pin and a 6-pin power connector. It’s good to verify what your specific GPU model requires for power to avoid any issues.

Just so you know, PCIe cables are specifically for graphics cards. They shouldn't be used for anything else like your CPU. Make sure you're plugging the right cables into the right places. If you mix them up, it could cause your components to malfunction. I’d recommend checking both your motherboard and power supply manuals to be sure.

There are definitely two types of 8-pin cables: one is for CPU power and the other is for PCIe GPUs. The CPU cable connects to the 8-pin ports near your CPU, while the PCIe cables are solely for GPUs. Don't mix them up, or you could risk damaging your GPU. Always double-check your manuals before connecting!

You should plug the 24-pin ATX power connector from your power supply into the middle left of your motherboard. For CPU power, connect the 2x 8-pin CPU power cables into the top right section of your motherboard. The other PCIe cable is likely for your GPU, which uses separate power connectors, either 8-pin or the newer 16-pin one. Definitely check the manuals for your motherboard and power supply to make sure everything is connected correctly.
