Trouble with Low Memory Notifications While Gaming

I've been running into a memory issue on my PC recently. My paging file is set to the default 512 MB that Windows recommended, but now every time I try to launch any game, it tells me I'm low on memory. This just started happening a few days ago. I'm wondering if I should manually set the paging file size myself, or if there's something else going wrong with my system. I have 32 GB of RAM, and there's about 21 GB of physical memory still available. Any recommendations? Thanks!

If you're getting out-of-memory errors, it could be more complicated than just your RAM or page file. Sometimes it can be related to something called "heap space" which isn't usually a problem unless you're overloading your system. Make sure your drivers and Windows are up to date too.

Could also be worth checking if there are any background processes that might not be visible immediately but are using resources.

I'm on Windows 10, so it shouldn't be a heap space issue, but I'll check for updates and maybe look into any hidden processes.

If your graphics card is low on VRAM, that can trigger memory errors during gaming. I have a 12GB GPU and I only started seeing these issues after certain updates made things stress the memory more. Your best bet is to check your graphics settings and reduce them if necessary, especially if this started after an update or game patch.

Same here! My games started crashing after the last patch; dropping a few settings helped a lot.

I hope it's just settings! I definitely don't remember having these issues before.

It sounds like you're dealing with some unusual RAM usage. When your PC is showing "low on memory," it's often referring to GPU VRAM instead of your actual system RAM. Make sure there aren't any other programs using too much memory in the background, like a web browser with a ton of tabs. Sometimes, restarting your PC or freeing up resources will help. Check your task manager to see what's hogging your resources, and remember that tweaking the paging file can help, but only if you're running low on physical memory.

I had a similar issue with my setup. Make sure you keep an eye on your task manager, especially browsing software; it can really take up valuable RAM.

Yeah, I've noticed browsers can be resource hogs. I used to leave Opera running and it would eat a lot of memory until I figured it out!
