I accidentally shorted the jbat while my PC was still running. I was trying to fix an issue with the BIOS because I couldn't access either BIOS or Windows. Unfortunately, I didn't realize I shouldn't short anything while the PC is on. Now, I'm not sure if my power supply is dead or if I damaged all my components. I tried the paper clip test, but the power supply didn't even start its fan. I'm worried about what to do from here, especially since I can't afford a new PC. I plan to buy a new power supply to see if that helps salvage the other components, but I'm uncertain if the power supply is fried or if it has protections in place that prevented it from failing because of the paper clip test.

You should definitely get a multimeter to check everything out. There's a good chance you might have shorted your motherboard, but it's not the end of the world. Many people have cleared the CMOS on older boards while they were powered on, and it sometimes worked without a hitch.
I’ll give the multimeter a shot, but is there any chance I've messed up both the motherboard and power supply?
