Why Does My Linux Mint USB Hang on Shutdown?

Hey all, I made a persistent Linux Mint USB flash drive that boots up just fine on my PC. But when I try to shut it down, I see a message that says, 'Please remove the installation medium, then press ENTER.' I do that and press Enter after taking out the USB, and then the system just hangs instead of powering off. I have to long-press the power button to turn it off manually. Has anyone else experienced this issue with persistent live USBs? Is there a way to fix it or a setting I can adjust for a proper shutdown? Any assistance would be super appreciated!

Glad I could help! Just a heads-up, live USBs act like traditional live media, so they don't retain changes unless you've set up persistence correctly. Keeping it plugged in while shutting down seemed to work for me! Just press Enter without removing it, and it should power off just fine.

It sounds like the system might be looking for the persistence file to save changes, but since you've removed the USB, it gets confused. Live versions behave like old CDs or DVDs—they can't make changes once the media is gone. Try shutting down without removing the USB first; that might help! Good luck!
