Did a Power Surge Damage My Xbox and Monitor?

I recently experienced a major lightning strike near my home, and after that incident, my Xbox One S and monitor stopped working. Interestingly, my PC—which was off at the time—still works fine. All these devices were connected to a CyberPower 1500VA UPS. Now, my Xbox and monitor can receive power, but they won't turn on, while my PC and its peripherals are unharmed. I'm curious if this was due to a power surge and how I can fix the issue with my Xbox and monitor.

Sounds like you might be looking at some damage to your Xbox and monitor. If you've plugged them directly into an outlet and they still don’t turn on, it’s likely they were affected by the power surge. Many UPS units, including yours, have components like MOV surge arrestors that can fail after a big event like a lightning strike, meaning they don’t protect connected devices anymore. CyberPower sometimes has a warranty that covers equipment damaged while connected, so check that out! Good luck!

It's definitely possible for only certain devices to get affected by a surge. It could be due to how the power flows through the UPS and which parts of your devices were hit harder than others. Just because some things are fine doesn’t mean everything is safe if the protection on your UPS has failed. Make sure to check for any indicator lights on the UPS and follow up on that warranty—it could save you some money!
