Hey everyone! I'm new to this and have a question about Azure VD and data centers. My organization is planning to transition to Azure for virtual desktops and move some data centers and application servers, as well as our file shares. I'm curious about what happens during a region outage. If there's a major outage that affects all availability zones, does that mean we're completely reliant on Microsoft to fix it? How often do these kinds of outages actually happen? We're excited about this move, but I want to be prepared for any potential risks, especially considering that on-premises setups generally have fewer issues aside from dire situations like power outages or hardware failures.

There have indeed been instances where outages have impacted entire regions. You can check this history for details: https://azure.status.microsoft/status/history/?trackingId=1K80-N_8.
To handle this type of risk, you might want to look into solutions like Site Recovery. It can help you prepare for potential outages.
In my experience, I've never encountered a full region outage. That said, it's definitely a risk to keep in mind. Some organizations are fine with having their applications spread across availability zones in one region. Others prefer to ensure regional resiliency, which has its own pros and cons—mainly related to cost and complexity.
Oooooo thanks! This is all new to me and a bit overwhelming.
