I've heard some people suggest freezing a hard drive to fix it when it won't power up. I'm curious if this really works. If it does, do I need to wrap the hard drive in something before freezing it? And how long should I leave it in the freezer?

Freezing a hard drive can sometimes work, but it's really a last resort option. If you decide to try it, make sure to wrap it in an anti-static bag first. Leave it in the freezer overnight and then try to retrieve your data ASAP because it might fail again as it starts warming up.
That's a good point about the condensation! I was thinking if it warms up too quickly, moisture could ruin everything.
