I'm heading to college this August for a BTech in Computer Science and Engineering, and I want to make my portfolio impressive even though the college isn't highly ranked. I'm curious about which programming language I should start with or what I can do now that would be beneficial. I have a bit of interest in the fintech sector, but I'm pretty much a beginner at this.

Rather than starting with low-level languages like C++ or Rust that focus heavily on memory management, consider high-level languages like Python or Swift. They allow you to get started quickly with programming concepts. Plus, using Swift Playgrounds could be a fun way to learn! Follow that advice to pick the language your college will teach; it’s a solid plan!
Don't stress too much about which language to choose! It's more important to pick something that interests you. If your college teaches a specific language in the first year, go with that. Just avoid overthinking it to the point where it hinders your progress.
I’ve heard that C++ is a good choice for high-frequency trading, and since it’s similar to Java, I might be okay learning it.
Check out the syllabus of your college and consider starting with the first language they teach. It might give you a solid foundation right off the bat!
Yeah, that's a really good point!
Thanks! I’ll definitely check that out.
