How can I get a broken headphone plug out of my PC’s headphone jack?

I recently built my first PC, using a NZXT H510 case, and decided to try out the headphone jack for the first time. I plugged in some Hyper X Cloud 2 headphones, but when I tried to unplug them, the outer sleeve of the headphone plug snapped off and got stuck inside the jack. Now, I only have the thin tip left, and it doesn't work properly. I've already tried removing the front panel connectors to access the jack, but that didn't help. Does anyone have any tips or methods for safely removing the broken piece without damaging the jack?

You might want to check if the jack is accessible from the back of your case, depending on its design. Just be careful not to touch any metal parts while the power is on!

I wish I could share a picture for better advice, but the forum doesn't allow it. I'll try to find a way to show what I'm dealing with.

The NZXT H510 case is pretty standard, so maybe you'll have some access from the back?

Using a glue gun is another option. Just put some glue inside the jack, let it dry for an hour, and then gently pull it out. Make sure to be careful with the amount you use to avoid damaging the jack.

Wouldn't that risk ruining the jack? How cautious do I need to be?

Have you heard about the iFixit GripStick? It's specifically designed for situations like this, and it can really help pull out stuck headphone pieces, even if they’re broken. Check it out!

I actually didn’t know that existed. Do you think it’ll work even though the outer sleeve broke off?

When I faced something similar, I managed to drill through the remaining part of the plug gently and then pulled it out with a tap. It was tricky but worked! You could try that if you're careful enough. Just remember to go slowly.

That's an extreme measure! How did you ensure you didn't damage the jack in the process?
