Need Advice on Building a Gaming PC for Future-proofing

Hey everyone! I'm currently looking to build a new gaming PC that can handle 1440p and 2K gaming, with some future-proofing in mind—especially for games like GTA 6. I'm considering a few options for the GPU and CPU and would love your thoughts. For GPUs, I'm looking at either the Radeon 9070xt Red Devil with 16GB or the RTX 5060ti or 5070 (maybe the 5070ti?). On the CPU side, I have a few choices: Intel's 14th Gen Core i7-14700F with 20 cores and 28 threads at 5.4GHz, or their Core Ultra 7 Processor with 20 cores and 20 threads at 5.5GHz. I'm also considering AMD options like the Ryzen 7 9700X (8 cores, 16 threads, 5.5GHz) or the Ryzen 9 5900XT (16 cores, 32 threads, 4.8GHz). Can anyone clarify the differences between the AM4 and AM5 sockets for AMD CPUs? Also, with the Ryzen 9 5900XT, are those 16 cores performing at full capacity? I'm curious because Intel seems to dominate the performance cores with their 8 performance and 12 efficient cores setup.

Honestly, I wouldn't buy into the AMD hype. With a strong GPU like the one you're considering, even the top AMD CPUs might not deliver better FPS than the Intel options. The Intel Core 265K is pretty close to AMD's best in gaming and productivity, and at a similar price, I find it more competitive. At 1440p, the GPU will likely be the bottleneck anyway, so just grab the best CPU for your needs.

I'd go for the Radeon 9070xt if it's about $100 cheaper than the 5070ti. And yeah, steer clear of the 5060ti and 5070 if you can. Just so you know, the Ryzen CPUs don't have the efficient cores like Intel; they have all performance cores, which is a plus. If you're thinking about future-proofing, definitely stick with AM5 since support for AM4 has ended and the performance is significantly better.

Stick with the Radeon 9070xt and the Intel Core i7-14700F. The combination works great together. If you're also considering X3D AMD CPUs, they pair nicely with the 9070xt too. Just ensure you prioritize that GPU because it’ll be the main bottleneck in most games at 1440p.

First things first, set a budget for your build. If you're focusing on future-proofing, the 9070xt or the 5070ti are solid choices. Definitely go for AMD’s AM5; it’s the current platform and performs better. Keep in mind that more cores don’t always translate to better gaming performance; Intel currently excels in that department.
