Why Does My PC Randomly Restart When Idle?

I'm experiencing a frustrating issue with my PC where it randomly restarts during light usage, like web browsing or even just running some basic tasks for school. It happens out of nowhere, leading to a black screen before it immediately reboots. There are no error messages or blue screens prompting me about what's going wrong.

My setup includes a Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU, ASUS ROG Strix B650E-E motherboard, 32GB DDR5 RAM, a PNY RTX 5070 Ti graphics card, a Samsung 980 PRO 2TB NVMe SSD, and an EVGA SuperNOVA G2 850W PSU. I've checked the temperatures while idle; they seem fine, with the CPU at 42-47°C and the GPU around 38°C.

One thing to note is that I'm using a 16-pin adapter for my newer GPU, as my older PSU doesn't have the right connector. I've also adjusted the "PSU Idle Control" in the BIOS which didn't help. I'm beginning to think this might be linked to the PSU and the adapter situation. Has anyone else faced similar issues, especially with RTX 50 series on older PSUs? What troubleshooting steps should I try next, and should I consider getting a new PSU?

I faced a similar issue recently after I took my PC apart for cleaning. It presented the 'Windows didn’t boot up properly' screen at first, but after waiting a bit, it booted fine again and hasn't restarted since.

I’m running a 7800x3D with a ProArt 4080 and Corsair SF1000 PSU, though. Maybe try reseating components?

That sounds pretty frustrating! Hope you find the issue soon. It's annoying not knowing what's causing it!

If you get a chance, testing with a different PSU could really help identify the problem.

It might be worth checking out a solid unit like a Corsair RMx series for replacement!

Yeah, I'm looking for some suggestions on which PSU to buy as a replacement.
