What’s the Best Way for a Beginner to Start Learning Programming?

I'm 17 and I've decided I want to dive into programming, but honestly, I'm feeling a bit lost on where to begin. I really enjoy playing Modded Minecraft and thought that learning Java to create my own mods could be an exciting way to start. However, I'm also thinking about my future and would like to get a programming job later on, which makes me wonder if just focusing on Minecraft mods is enough for that. I know I'll probably need to learn other programming languages too, but I'm unsure where to start. Which languages should I consider? How do I go about learning them? Is it okay to learn more than one language at the same time? I have basically zero coding experience despite having used computers throughout my childhood.

Python is often recommended because it's easy to learn and versatile across many tech fields—like automation, machine learning, or web development. But don't feel pressured to pick it if you're excited about Java. Follow your passion!

I agree! Starting with what you enjoy is key. If Minecraft mods excite you, go for it!

Hey, I'm also 17! It'd be cool to learn together. If you're interested in computer science, I think CS50x is a great starting point. You can choose any programming language based on your interests. The important thing is to focus on problem-solving and algorithmic thinking!

Just focus on mastering Java first and it'll click for you. You can use free resources online, including YouTube and various courses. Once you're comfortable, branch out to C, C++, C#, Python, SQL, etc. Later, you'll find that most languages share similar concepts!

Starting with Java to make mods is a fantastic idea! It’ll make learning programming much more relatable for you. I learned Java first, and it set me up well for everything else later. Just dive in and have fun with it—it's going to make university programming feel much easier!

Exactly! Java will help you understand a lot of concepts, and once you're comfortable, you can transition to languages like C# or Python later on without much trouble.

You should definitely check out CS50! It's a free online course from Harvard that’s perfect for absolute beginners. It covers the basics and really helps you understand programming concepts.
