I'm trying to swap out the CPU in my PC, but it won't boot up. I need to remove the heatsink that has thermal paste, and I'm unsure about how to heat it up for easier removal since I don't have a heat gun. Does anyone have suggestions for safely detaching the heatsink without damaging it or the CPU?

What type of heatsink are you using? Sometimes the method can vary depending on the design. Typically, you just need to unlock or unscrew it from the base and pull it out, but it really does depend on the heatsink model.
You actually don't need to heat the paste to remove the heatsink. I've taken off coolers that have been sitting for years without any trouble. Just make sure you apply a steady force and it should come off without issues.
Just unscrew your heatsink and then give it a gentle twist while pulling up. That usually helps break the seal of the thermal paste without any hassle.
