Should I Upgrade My RAM or My SSD?

I'm looking to upgrade my system and have a specific dilemma. I currently have a G Skill 'bundle' with Samsung BDie RAM running at 6200 CL36. Should I look for better binned DDR5 RAM or should I upgrade my SSD to a PCIe 4.0 model? What would provide a better performance boost?

The most performance gains come from manually tuning your memory's secondary and tertiary timings rather than swapping RAM kits. And if you have a Zen 4 or 5 CPU, make sure your UCLK is matching your MCLK — both should be at 3100MHz for best performance.

I do have UCLK matching MCLK. I've been following Buildzoid's videos but he's a bit hard to follow at times! My timings are mostly tight, but I can't get TRFC lower than 806 and have TREFI maxed out.

To be frank, both upgrades have limited impact. If your RAM is already 6000 CL36, you probably won't see significant gains switching to a 6000 CL30 kit. For SSDs, the PCIe version isn't everything; look more at the NAND type and controller quality.

Good to know! I was worried I'd be wasting money.

Honestly, for gaming, upgrading either won't make a huge difference. If you're mainly playing games, both have minimal impact. But if you're using the SSD for your OS or caching, then a faster SSD would show a bit more benefit.

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed to hear! Sometimes it feels like there's just so much new info out there, lol.

I guess it depends on how you use your PC! Definitely good to know.
