I was in the middle of a gaming session when my PC suddenly died on me. I tried turning it back on, and it would start for just a moment before shutting off again. I've gone through a bunch of troubleshooting steps like swapping in a different power supply, testing a different CPU, and even using just one RAM stick. I also did the CMOS battery reset and attempted to boot without the GPU, but nothing worked. The only time it stayed on for longer was when I disconnected the CPU 4-pin from the motherboard. Given that, I'm wondering if my motherboard is dead or if there's something else I could try. My setup includes a Ryzen 5 5700X3D, 16GB of RAM, an RX 9070 XT, and a Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 850W PSU.

I had a similar issue once, and it turned out to be the CPU! But since you’ve already tested a spare CPU and it didn’t help, I’d lean more toward it being a motherboard issue. It usually gives some form of warning or beeping if there’s a problem, but maybe yours didn’t?
Honestly, it sounds like you might just need a new motherboard. The fact that it doesn’t give any errors or beeps before shutting off is a bad sign. If you have a friend with similar parts, testing with their motherboard could help confirm.
I know, right? I really thought the spare CPU might be the fix, but after it died again, I’m mostly wondering if the motherboard is truly toast.
