I recently encountered an issue with my iPhone 7. It was working fine until I updated it, and now it's showing an activation lock tied to an unknown Apple ID. I had originally bought the phone from a shop, and I was able to set up my Apple ID and iCloud without any problems before the update. Unfortunately, the shopkeeper isn't being helpful and insists there's nothing they can do. I've been using the phone for over a year now, and I'm hoping there's a solution to this issue.

There's a chance the previous owner had the phone bypassed before selling it. Unfortunately, that means you might just have a fancy paperweight now. For future purchases, always perform a DFU restore to check for any hidden issues like this one before finalizing the deal.
If you can’t get the Apple ID that the phone is locked to, and you didn’t receive an invoice from an authorized reseller, you might be out of luck. It’s a tough lesson about buying from suspicious sources, and you could try to get a refund from the shop if possible. If you can’t get your money back, consider recycling the phone and moving on.
Keep in mind that unless the shop is an authorized Apple reseller, any receipt they give you won't be enough to help remove the Activation Lock. Legally, there's not much you can do in this situation. It's really frustrating, but be careful when buying second-hand devices.
