How Can I Take Over a Tenant Domain When I Can’t Access the Old Admin Account?

Hey everyone! I'm facing a bit of a pickle with an Office 365 migration and I'm hoping someone can help me out. We have a new customer who is transitioning to Office 365, but it turns out they have an old tenant (contosoxx.onm) and they don't have the Global Admin password from years ago. We set up a new tenant for them (contoso.onm). Now, when I try to take over the domain (CONTOSO.COM), I keep getting this message: 'Unable to verify this domain because it is used elsewhere in Office 365. Remove the verified domain from the other service before adding it here.' I managed to get to the confirm-mgdomain step for domain takeover, but it says that the -ForceTakeover option is not available. I'm really stuck here and would appreciate any guidance or solutions you can offer. Thanks a ton!

Definitely contact Microsoft Support. They had me verify some information with my client, and I managed to add the domain to the new tenant after that process.

Check out this procedure that might help you: [Domain Takeover Guide](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/identity/users/domains-admin-takeover). If that doesn't solve it, you might just need to get in touch with support. If you can prove ownership of the DNS record, there's still hope!

I encountered a similar situation before and had to reach out to Microsoft support. I was able to confirm domain access by adding a custom DNS record. They then handled the deletion from the old tenant for me, so it can be done!

You'll need to open a support ticket with Microsoft. They'll connect you with the right team. Just be ready to provide some details about your situation to the support team, though. That's usually the way to go with these issues.
