Should I Upgrade to an RTX 5080 with a 750W PSU?

I found an RTX 5080 at MSRP while browsing for upgrades. Currently, I have an i5-14600KF and an RX 7800 XT. Most people have been saying that a 5070 Ti would work just fine with my setup. However, after watching some videos, I've noticed that the RTX 5080 has similar power consumption to the 5070 Ti. I'm curious if it would be a good idea to upgrade to the 5080 or if I should stick with the 5070 Ti. Also, I have an RM Series RM750 80 Plus Gold power supply. What do you all think?

I can't give you precise numbers, but I've been using a 5070 Ti on a 750W PSU with a 14700 (non-K) processor. At idle, it draws around 60-80W, 200-300W during boot, and peaks at slightly over 500W during heavy benchmarks. So, I think your setup should handle the RTX 5080 without issues, especially if you don't have a lot of extra peripherals.

Yeah, I saw that the 14700 pulls more power than yours under load, so if yours is around 500W, I feel pretty good about my setup being fine since mine uses about 30W less. Thanks, this is super helpful!

Just keep in mind transients. A 750W PSU is cutting it close, but you should be okay as long as it's a decent quality unit.

One thing to consider is that you might need a new cable for the RTX 5080. Depending on the age of your PSU and the number of 8-pin connections your motherboard uses, you may need the Corsair 2 x 8 to 12VHPWR cable.

I run a Corsair SF 750 in a small form factor build with a 9800X3D and an RTX 5080 FE. If you're concerned about power, consider putting a power limit or undervolt your card. Most GPUs, especially the 5080, are quite efficient. I'm hitting stock clocks at 220W, so no limits here, and the total system draw is about 400W at full load. You'll probably be fine, but capping the power can help.

I’ve never tried undervolting before, but I didn’t know about power limiting either. If you're running at 400W and my CPU's about 30W less, then I'm feeling safer about going with the 5080. Thanks for the info!
